We knew that JC was recording in New York, but what we didn't know was that apparently he's recording in New York with _Britney_. That's the collaboration? Jesus god. I'm sure it's just what Jive wants, something sure to get attention. I can remember them trying briefly to sell the Nick/Justin rivalry back when their albums debuted, and I'm sure they have visions of doing the same more effectively with JC.

I'm not one of the people that were freaking out over a collaboration or a new first single, it's not unreasonable of Jive to try to push for a killer first single to sell the album. But *Britney*? I can't think of hardly anything that is more likely to assure that his album is relegated to the boyband shoebox in the public's mind and kill any chance of getting new audiences. Yeah, sure electronica fans are going to run out and buy a Britney single.

Justin's working with Coldplay and John Meyer, and JC is stuck with Britney? I think I'm gonna be sick.

ETA: I should add that this is not from a personal dislike of Britney. I just want him paired with someone who can sing, and someone who won't fix his image as still stuck solely in teenpop.

Though I guess the tiny comfort is that maybe Jive really is still interested in promoting the album, despite the January death-pit date.

ETA again: Taking deep breaths and attempting to not go off the deep end. None of this has been confirmed yet, not even the sightings. I should try to freak out less, and freak out my friendslist less.

If JC's recording with Britney, I hardly think he'd be "stuck" with her. They've both got enough clout to decide whether or not they'd want to record together.

Er, not that I think it's a good idea by any means. I'm not a Brit-hater, but she can't keep up with him vocally, not even a little.

I don't dismiss the idea that it could be JC's idea, yeah. I think he's more competitive than people often think, and that the artistic dreaminess is exaggerated. But I have trouble believing it was his *first* choice in collaborations either.

And as I edited in above, I'm taking deep breaths and trying not to panic prematurely.

Well, there is the fact that she would give JC some of the exposure that he could use in the mainstream audiences... my throat closes when I try to use the word credibility, because HA, but people who aren't in the know just don't have any idea how incredible he already is. And being that Jive wants to push albums, of course, they're going to try and market him as best they can, any way that they can, to sell him. If that means attaching him to Britney to attract her fan base, well...

Your outrage would be so much more effective if you could spell John Mayer's name right.

And I don't think he's 'stuck'. At no point in this process has JC seemed to do anything other than prance around and play with whoever he wants to. The other guys all agreed that his worst trait was 'stubborn', I'm pretty sure you couldn't get him to work with someone he considered substandard on his album with a chair and a bullwhip.
